This new live professional introduction was created for yoga and meditation teachers, fitness professionals, wellness coaches, and healthcare professionals who want to experience authentic Tai Chi and explore how it may support their health, their clients, and their future work.
This is not a Tai Chi teacher training or certification. It is a first step into the practice and a way to explore whether a deeper path feels right for you.
Why I created this professional track
Wellness professionals, especially yoga teachers, often ask me, "How do I become a Tai Chi teacher? Is it right for me?"
I began teaching Tai Chi in 2012, and over time it became a major part of my work. Even with decades of yoga training, a Master of Science in Yoga Therapy, and a career as the author of Science of Yoga, Tai Chi opened professional doors that yoga alone often did not.
Retirement communities, hospitals, gyms, corporate wellness programs, private clients, and workshops often wanted someone who could offer both yoga and Tai Chi.
That is why I created this professional introduction: to help you experience Tai Chi from the inside out, understand where it may fit within your work, and explore the next steps before committing to a full teacher training.
Is this right for you?
This course is for you if:
You are a yoga or meditation teacher, fitness professional, wellness coach, or healthcare professional.
You are interested in Tai Chi for your own health and longevity.
You serve older adults or people who need a gentler approach to movement.
You are considering becoming a Tai Chi instructor someday but want to experience the practice first.
You want honest guidance about what the Tai Chi teaching path may involve.
**No prior Tai Chi experience is required.
Why Tai Chi may be worth exploring
The wellness field is crowded, but far fewer professionals teach Tai Chi, even as more people look for low-impact, accessible ways to support balance, stress relief, pain management, and healthy aging.
Tai Chi is upright, adaptable, and naturally suited to older adults, people with joint pain, and clients who need a gentler alternative to traditional fitness.
It has also been widely studied for:
Balance and fall prevention
Arthritis and pain relief
Stress reduction
Healthy aging
For wellness professionals, Tai Chi may offer both a meaningful personal practice and a complementary direction for the work they already do.
Why we begin with REAL Tai Chi Walking
Tai Chi Walking is one of the most practical ways to begin learning authentic Tai Chi. Unlike the exaggerated claims often seen online, the real practice provides an approachable and science-backed foundation for beginners.
You'll begin exploring essential Tai Chi skills such as:
Weight shifting
Mindful foot placement
Tai Chi posture
Tai Chi breathing
Coordinating movement with attention
These are the building blocks that carry into deeper Tai Chi study.
What you'll explore
This professional introduction is designed to help you explore:
The foundations of authentic Tai Chi through guided practice
How Tai Chi differs from yoga, Qigong, meditation, and traditional fitness
Why it is especially relevant for balance, accessible movement, and healthy aging
How Tai Chi may complement the wellness work you already do
What the path toward becoming a Tai Chi instructor may involve

What students say about learning with Ann
“It was such a thorough and thoughtful course and so well designed. I liked that it was easy to understand and very organized.
I feel so much more prepared to teach now! My teaching is focused on non-typical yoga populations, and although my initial 200-hour certification was very anatomy-heavy, I needed this science background. I am inspired to dive deeper into the studies.“
—Susie Concannon, Yoga Teacher & Holistic Integrative Therapist
“I found this teacher training really insightful, but the word that came to mind right away was 'useful.' In the best way possible. It is practical, and the 'for the real world' concept is truthful. I leave this course feeling much more ready and confident than when I started. And that, these days, is rare. The confidence it instilled in me and the practical insights from the course are truly valuable. To me personally, being a science-informed course was crucial, and it did not disappoint at all.”
—Bernardo, Wellness Coach
“Excellent instruction and demonstration. This fundamental practice of Tai Chi is often overlooked as students focus on the form and hand movements. However, the root of movements comes from the feet and the relaxed concentration and correct alignment are very important to develop at an early stage - and to continually revisit.
You have a superb teaching style that your students will benefit from.“

Why learn with Ann?
Meet Your Teacher: Ann Swanson, MS, LMT, C-IAYT, E-RYT500
Hi, I’m Ann. I began studying tai chi in China over 20 years ago and have been teaching tai chi since 2012. I’m now a Tai Chi for Health Senior Trainer under the mentorship of one of the most well-respected tai chi masters in the world, Dr. Paul Lam.
I’m also a yoga therapist (C-IAYT) with a Master of Science in Yoga Therapy and the author of the internationally best-selling Science of Yoga, which has sold over half a million copies in 15+ languages.
What’s shocked me is that with all this education and background, tai chi is the only place I’ve ever gone “viral” or taken off online.
Even though my formal training is primarily in yoga therapy, tai chi has consistently brought in opportunities, often accounting for 50% or more of my business.
It has helped me serve more people, get hired in more settings, and offer a practice that is especially powerful for balance, healthy aging, stress relief, and accessible movement. It’s been the perfect complement to my work as a yoga therapist and meditation teacher.
